Corneal Refractive Therapy
Patient Goal: The goal of Corneal Refractive Therapy is to provide improved uncorrected visual acuity.
- Your vision retainer is designed to be worn while you are sleeping, and upon removal in the morning, you should eventually be able to maintain functional sight during all waking hours.
- The absolute best visual acuity is not the goal of Corneal Refractive Therapy; good, functional vision is the desired outcome.
- For many patients, a lifestyle free from glasses or contact lenses provides a quality of life that overshadows any of the minor inconveniences of CRT.
Care of Your Vision Retainer: The care of your vision retainer is similar to standard gas permeable contact lenses.
- They must be cleaned upon removal, stored in conditioning solution, and cleaned again before insertion.
- Change the solution every day. For best results, it is recommended that a good quality cotton swab be used to clean the inside surface of your vision retainer at least once a week.
- When using the cotton swab, make sure the swab is completely saturated and that care is taken not to scratch the vision retainer with the shaft of the cotton swab or debris on the tip.
- Whenever handling the vision retainer, make sure the sink drain is closed. Accidentally washing the vision retainer down the drain is the most common cause of lost retainers. Either use a stopper or place a paper towel over the opening.
