Is everyone a candidate for Corneal Refractive Therapy?

No. CRT can correct moderate nearsightedness (up to -6.00 D of myopia) and lower amounts of astigmatism. At this time CRT cannot correct farsightedness (hyperopia).

How long does it take for my vision to be corrected?

You might notice a change after one day, but correction can take up to two weeks. Generally, the higher the degree of vision correction, the more time it takes to achieve full correction.

How long does the vision correction last?

For a full day and sometimes longer.

How long does it take to be fitted with CRT lenses?

About five visits over two months.

How do I care for my lenses when I’m not wearing them?

The care of CRT lenses is different from standard contact lenses, but not any more difficult. Care and handling will be explained in detail by our trained eye care staff.

Will I be able to see clearly while wearing the CRT lenses at night?

Yes, just as if you were wearing ‘standard’ contact lenses.

Is CRT appropriate for people of all ages?

Most people can be fitted from age 10.

Am I a candidate for CRT if I’ve never worn contacts?

Yes, if you fall within the eye correction parameters. During your comprehensive vision exam you will be fully advised of the pros and cons of CRT for you.

Can every Optometrist fit CRT lenses?

No. Currently only about 125 eye physicians are certified for this procedure. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration must certify Doctors of Optometry in CRT.

How often do I need to replace my CRT lenses?

About every two years. Or sooner, if your vision changes, or you break, lose or damage a lens.
